We are beginning a new project called SeaHope Partners. This arm of The Sewing Machine Project aims to help coastal residents affected by the oil spill in the Gulf. We have a couple of different ideas…both pretty exciting.
For starters, we are working on a new product idea that will make use of recycled materials, will be able to be sewn by coastal residents, and will create a fund to help mend these communities.
And if that not’s exciting enough…we are starting SeaHope Sew For Hope, a quilting challenge, offering quilters the opportunity to create and donate a quilt which will not only be featured on the SeaHope website, but will also be auctioned off to create funding for mending these communities.
So I am traveling in southern Louisiana this week–Terrebonne Parish. Evidence of BP is everywhere. Fishing boats are lined up and vacant. Fishermen we’ve talked to are telling us about rerigging their fishing boats to skim oil.
This community has a culture all it’s own. This is an area where fishing is a way of life. We must do all we can to help.
During these economic times there are many others across USA are in need of help. Many have sewing talents that would
like to do Home Sewing . Some could do this as a means to help themself and others to help put food on their table. Many just need and want to WORK from home doing various jobs. Are there any Companies that are willing to use these talents to help Families here in the USA to bring income?

I’m sure there are small cottage industries who could use home sewers. I would suggest checking in one’s area to see what opportunities there are.
I understand that there are many in the US who could use this type of help. We are doing what we can to help who we can.

i have so much fabric i don:t know what to do with it all,would anyone be willing to drive up here in nebraska,it is just too expensive to ship,would donate,it is mostly cotton,will give more details if interested,might have a machine and a serger.
Hi Ella, Thank you for thinking of us! Perhaps you should contact area organizations that could use the fabric. Check to see if the American Sewing Guild has a chapter in your city…they could possibly be most helpful. Also, contact local churches to see if they could use your wonderful fabric.
