mending communities, one sewing machine at a time

We’re on TV!

Back in the spring, Margaret taped an interview with Nancy Zieman on the Nancy’s Corner segment of Nancy’s highly popular tv show, Sewing With Nancy. That show is now available to PBS stations across the country. Margaret appears on program # 2209, Trace and Create Bags II. Check your local PBS station listings to see when it’s on!!

How exciting!

I saw the appearance on Sewing with Nancy this morning and immediately thought of the women seen on Good Morning America last night in the story done by Dianne Sawyer…the story of Appalachia. I bet they would love to have some machines and supplies… I am going to bring this idea to my quilters guild . I am not the only one with a machine in my closet!!!

Margaret, earlier today I watched Sewing with Nancy. The interview with you was featured. I am thrilled that you have organized such a project! I want to be involved! First, let me say that I was already on a path to connect people in need with donated machines. I feel so good about the oportunity in my community to match people with machines that were donated to our very informal “club”. We are just more than one year old. We meet through an opportunity made possible by our local Pasco County Extension Service Office (University of Florida/IFAS). Several weeks ago, quite by accident, we began collecting donated machines that we would provide to persons who otherwise had no opportunity to own a machine. We’ve only just begun! I have contacted a repairman who plans to stop by and look at the machines. He said he is willing to consider giving us a break on cleaning/oil/repair. It had not yet occurred to us that we might make this a long term project in our community. After seeing your interview, and reading nearly every word within your website, and viewing every photo posted to your site, I am completely enamored with your project. How can I help? How can our group help? I want to help! Did I mention that I want to help?

Our “casual” sewing club meets tomorrow. I will present your “Sewing Machine Project” to the group. Probably after Christmas, I will contact you with questions and comments. Amy 12/11/09
