mending communities, one sewing machine at a time

Update from the snowy north

We have had more snow in Wisconsin this winter than I can remember in recent years–not since my childhood can I remember having these big snowbanks, “snow days” with school and business closings, a real white winter! It’s beautiful but Wisconsinites are starting to long for spring.
Reading about the Mardi Gras festivities in New Orleans with 80 degree temperatures sounded almost dreamlike and the spirit of New Orleans makes me long for my next visit.
I’m planning to return to New Orleans in April of this year. We have about 50 machines warehoused and ready to go–my goal is at least 100 machines for this trip. My coworkers have generously given their time to help prepare the machines we’ve received so far and we’re hoping that more come in. I’d like to try to finish off the current waiting list on this trip as well as add a few machines to the organizations/schools who already have some machines but need a few more.
If you know anyone who has a machine that they don’t need please encourage them to donate their machine to the Sewing Machine Project. Be sure it works, of course, but then please bring it on in!
And for those of you in warmer sectors of the country, send a little warmth and sunshine our way! We’re covered in snow around here!
